This explains what QuickNews collects when you use QuickNews, what we do with it, who helps us run the service, and the controls you have. The short version: we collect what we need to run QuickNews, we don't sell your data, and we don't use third-party ad trackers. Also see our Terms of Service.

1. What we collect

Your account. Name, handle, email, password (stored as a one-way hash, never in plain text), and anything you add to your profile: phone number, profile picture, banner, bio, location, website and social links. If you sign in with Google we get your Google account ID, name and email. If you use Telegram we get your Telegram user ID and the name on your Telegram account.

What you post and do. Videos, captions, comments, likes, reposts, saved videos, creators you support, communities you join, the interests you pick, and your settings, muted words and blocked accounts.

What you watch. Which videos you watch and for how long, where you stopped, and whether you finished. If you aren't signed in, this is tied to a random session ID, not to you.

Creators. When you sign the creator agreement we keep the name, contact details and address you enter, the time you signed, your IP address and browser details (as proof of signing) and a PDF copy. We also keep records of your earnings and payments.

Technical. Your IP address is used to protect accounts and limit abuse (for example, too many login attempts). Our hosting providers keep standard server logs. When you arrive from an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Perplexity, we add one to that assistant's count for the day, without anything that identifies you.

On your device. QuickNews stores your login and your device settings (theme, liquid glass, autoplay, sound and so on) in your browser's storage and a few cookies. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

2. How we use it

  • To run QuickNews: your account, posting, comments, who you support, notifications and the rest.
  • To pick videos for you. For You uses your interests, who you support and what you've already watched. We aim for what's useful to you, not what's most viral.
  • To count views, show creators their analytics, and pay creators fairly.
  • To make transcripts, translations, articles and Sources for videos.
  • To keep people safe: stopping spam, abuse and fake engagement, and enforcing our terms.
  • To email you login codes, password reset links and important account notices.
  • To fix bugs and make QuickNews better.
  • To follow the law and respond to lawful requests.

3. What other people can see

Your profile (name, handle, picture, banner, bio, links), your published videos, your comments, who you support and who supports you are public. Your Reposts tab is public unless you turn it off in Settings › Privacy. Your email, phone number, saved videos, watch history, settings, muted words and blocked accounts are private. Your direct messages are seen only by you and the person you're messaging.

4. Who helps us run QuickNews

We don't sell your personal data. We share it only with services that run parts of QuickNews for us:

  • Railway: our servers and database.
  • Vercel: hosting the website.
  • Cloudflare: storing and delivering videos and images.
  • Resend: sending emails.
  • LiveKit: carrying the video and audio of quicknews calls while a call is on. We don't record calls. If someone in the HQ turns on transcription (everyone there sees that it's on), short clips of what each person says are turned into text by SMEAN (Khmer) or Groq (English), and we keep the text, not the audio.
  • Google and Telegram: sign-in, if you choose them.
  • GIPHY: the sticker library. What you type to search stickers goes to GIPHY through our servers, without your account; GIPHY stickers load from GIPHY, which sees your IP address when they do.
  • Google (Gemini), Groq, SMEAN and Perplexity: processing video audio and text to make transcripts, translations, articles and Sources.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of QuickNews, in which case this policy keeps applying to your data.

Some of these services process data outside Cambodia, including in the United States.

5. Your controls

  • Edit your profile, email and phone in Edit profile.
  • Choose notifications, who can comment, Reposts visibility, muted words and blocked accounts in Settings.
  • Sign out every other device in Settings › Account.
  • Delete your account in Settings › Account.
  • Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or for us to stop using it for something, by emailing sunratanak@quicknews.tech.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account:

  • Your name, email, phone, password, profile picture, banner, bio, links and Google/Telegram sign-in links are wiped straight away, and you're signed out everywhere.
  • Your videos are taken down straight away. If you also want the video files erased from our storage, email us and we'll do it.
  • Who you support and who supports you, reposts, saved videos, notifications, community memberships, interests, settings, mutes and blocks are deleted.
  • Comments you left stay in their threads but show as "Deleted account", so other people's replies still make sense.
  • Your handle stays reserved so nobody can take it and pretend to be you. Your likes and watch history stay linked to that closed, wiped account so creators' counts don't change.
  • Creator agreements and payment records are kept as long as the law requires for contracts and accounting.

7. Security

Connections to QuickNews are encrypted, passwords are hashed, and login tokens expire.

The text of your messages, including direct messages, is encrypted before we store it, with a key kept separately from our database. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted: our servers decrypt them to deliver them to you. Photos and videos you send in a direct message are stored with Cloudflare at a long random address that only the two of you are given; they aren't encrypted the way message text is. Photos are resized on your phone before they're sent, which also removes hidden details such as where they were taken. Removing the message removes the file.

No system is perfectly secure, so use a strong password and tell us if you notice anything wrong with your account.

8. Children

QuickNews isn't for children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has an account, we'll delete it. Parents can contact us at sunratanak@quicknews.tech.

9. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
