The story

A high-profile trial has commenced in Hong Kong regarding the grisly death and dismemberment of socialite and model Abby Choi. Multiple members of her ex-husband's family face murder charges in proceedings expected to last at least 45 days before a jury.

Choi, a mother of four with more than 100,000 Instagram followers, was known for her international luxury lifestyle and had recently attended Paris Fashion Week and the 2023 Spring Summer Haute Couture Show from Elisab. In February 2023, she was reported missing, prompting a police investigation that uncovered dismembered body parts days later at a home in Hong Kong's northern Tai Po district.

At the scene, investigators located an electric saw and a meat slicer, alongside a large stainless steel soup pot containing Choi's skull, hair, and several ribs. Police reported finding a hole on the right rear side of the skull, and the absence of other remains triggered an extensive search at a landfill.

Choi's ex-husband, his brother, and their father have all been charged with her murder, an offense that carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment in Hong Kong. Friends remembered Choi at her funeral as a kind-hearted companion and an animal welfare advocate who co-founded a charity to rescue injured cats and dogs.
